Nothing Changes

When the virginal Katarina met boisterous and cocky Spencer on the streets of Mbombela, she did not trust his intentions. At twenty-one, he was five years older than her. Much more experienced, with an easy charm that pulled her in to him, the young student had soon found herself falling helplessly in love with him.
Katarina had thrown all caution to the wind, wanting this outwardly confident young man to be her husband. She had never known love, and Spencer showered her unconditionally with affection and attention. The slums where she lived seemed slightly more tolerable now that he was in her life. He had played along with their shared fantasy, but reality has a strange way of tearing apart the dreams of youth. When Katarina gave her virginity to the love of her life, she did so with complete disregard for the strict customs of her people. She knew that she had spoilt herself for any other, but she hoped that the ancestors would look down favourably on their love.
But she did not bargain on the anger of their parents. And the cruel punishment of their ancestors.
