This novel tells the story of a fictional character, Orlan de l'Artois. Condemned to exile for impiety, the young hero has to flee the kingdom of the Franks. He decides to leave for the kingdom of Jerusalem, where he is welcomed by Joïb, a scholar of great wisdom, who protects him and invites him to share his thoughts on the world.
This tale of the Middle Ages reinvented in the light of the present, subtly denounces intolerance, political extremism and religious fanaticism, and allows young readers to discover the Middle Ages of magicians, sages and trouvères.
