Othello is a tragedy by William Shakespeare that tells the story of a noble Moorish general who falls victim to the manipulations of his jealous ensign, Iago. Othello is married to Desdemona, a beautiful and virtuous Venetian lady, who loves him sincerely. Iago, who hates Othello for passing him over for a promotion, plots to ruin his marriage and reputation by making him believe that Desdemona is having an affair with Cassio, Othello's loyal lieutenant.
