Harriet Elisabeth Beecher Stowe (1811 1896) was an American abolitionist and author. Best known in the world for her novels which always had depiction of life for African Americans under slavery and due to it became influential in the United States and United Kingdom. It energized anti-slavery forces in the American North, while provoking widespread anger in the South. She wrote more than 20 books, including novels, three travel memoirs, and collections of articles and letters. She was influential for both her writings and her public stands on social issues of the day. Palmetto Leaves by Harriet Beecher Stowe is neither a novel, nor a novella. The book is written in a memorial genre with elements of travel guide, published in 1873. Stowe in this work describes her winters in the town of Mandarin, Florida where she came after the U.S Civil War (1861-1865). The place of her inspiration wasn't purchased occasionally, she wanted her son to recover from injures he had received as a Union soldier and to make a new start in her literary life. The distinguishing feature of this work is a great description of Florida nature in January and wonderful feelings which you get living here. This story will be useful for those readers who love nature, solitariness, and quiet life.
