An exceptional surgeon, Doctor James Burke has the manners of a Neanderthal and the people skills of a rock.

When a small misstep and a series of unfortuante events land him in intensive care, the entire hospital staff goes into panic mode.

He's the instigator of a job action suite that is causing untold stress for Melissa Clayton, chief operating officer at St. Joe's Hospital. The fact that he's now a patient and mistakes have been made means it's up to her to de-fuse the crisis.

She does isoby biting her tongue until it bleeds. Burke is her least favorite person, but his mother is a good contendor for second place. And then there's her ex-partner who lives in her basement, and hsi daughter who Melissa loves and can't discipline.

Melissa is excellent at her job and hopeless when it comes to relationships with men.

When her mother needs an emergency operation, Melissa insists on Doctor Burke. But there are comlications.

Can a doc with no bedside manner and an administrator with a BMW, no seduction skills and zilch clothing sense find common ground? Or--heaven save us--even romance, in spite of their family disasters?

It takes two small girls, a parking attendant and some amazing insights to resolve the sticky situation.
