There are few sectors in the life of the mind untouched by Friedrich Hegel's influence and idiom. These include not only philosophy itself but also political theory, the study of law and legal institutions, aesthetics, and the history and philosophy of religion.

Our notions of theory and of history, of logical arguments and aesthetic judgment, of academic pedagogy and society are permeated by Hegelian values.

Hegel's timeless study, Philosophy of Mind takes up questions central to our lives and includes discussions of feelings and emotions, consciousness, habit and free will, and rationalityas well as madness, dreams, and the paranormal.

Despite the suppression (and even banning at one point) of his work, Hegel's influence has been immense, both within philosophy and in the other sciences. It would come to have a profound impact on many future philosophical schools, such as Existentialism, Marxism, Nationalism, Fascism, Historicism, British Idealism and Logical Positivism and the Analytic Philosophy movement.

FRIEDRICH HEGEL (1770 1831) was a German philosopher and a major figure of German idealism. He achieved wide renown in his day for espousing a philosophy of spirit that conceptually integrates psychology, the state, history, art, and religion. His undisputed stature within Western philosophy is universally recognized. He has been called the "Aristotle of modern times", and used his system of dialectics to explain the whole of the history of philosophy, science, art, politics and religion. Hegel is often considered the summit of early 19th century German thought.
