The accomplished author of Pirates' Hope, a clever adventure, has given us that rara avis a thriller satisfies our literary taste. In the truly plot we find a vigorous young New Yorker is determined to test certain friends not to mention his sweetheart by taking them on a cruise and by "faking" some very hazardous situations. He bullded better than he knew and does have to invent dangers, nor yet tests. Pirates and buried treasure and hurricanes and sharks are but a few of the excitements encountered.
Francis Lynde (1856-1930) was a prolific writer, with short fiction appearing in magazines like Munsey's as early as 1894. A decade later, he began a long relationship with The Popular Magazine.
By 1910 when Scribner's published The Taming of Red Butte Western, Lynde had already published six novels, plus a couple dozen serialized stories in magazines. In later years, three of his stories would find their way to film.
