How Pook, with the assistance of Honners, ecapes from her clutches by falling into the jaws of a goodtime girl called Penny is an object lesson in the art of establishing a business and building it up to the pinnacle of financial insolvency.

Some of the scenes are set in that traditional heart of British commercial lifethe public house, where the giants of Cudford Estate Agency negotiate their property deals to the limits of human endurance, before being assisted from the premises at closing time in an almost insensible condition.
