Public Library in India Impact on Socio-cultural and Educational Development of Mizoram

This book is divided into nine chapters studying and evaluating various topics of public library elements in different approaches as below: Chapter 1 is about the discussion of public in general, defining public library and its need to study about it in regards to its support and impact for the development of the society. It also includes about the problems that arises for this study with methodology. Chapter two discuss about the public library scenario in India. It discuses each states of India in regards to public library services dividing into states with public library acts and states without library acts in India. National Knowledge Commission's recommendations in libraries and National Policy on library and Information science were also discussed. Chapter three deals with the public library scenario of Mizoram discussing State and District Libraries in the state in regards to their services, staff, collection, finance, etc. with latest statistical data. Chapter four study about the contributions of Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation, Adult Education and Young Mizo Association for the development of public libraries in Mizoram which is supported with statistical data. Chapter five is about the contributions of library associations for the promotion of public libraries. The contributions of Mizoram Library Association in this regard are discussed in detail to encourage other associations for the development of the society through their activities. Chapter six gives us about the dynamic socio-culture of Mizo that is very different from other societies of India. The impact of public library for the development of socio-cultural of Mizo society is presented in this chapter. Chapter seven deals with the history of educational developments in Mizoram under the aegis of public library. Its impact on education in the state particularly in informal education of the state is discussed in detail. Chapter eight deals about the analysis of data and findings which is drawn from data collected from various sources. Chapter nine is about the conclusion and suggestions from the study of the problem that arise on public library as gateway of information to the society.
