Most of us barely remember how we learned to read. We were very little and the process, understandably, was gradual. So now that you are faced with raising your own reader, how and where do you begin? As a teacher, reading specialist and consultant to what at this point amounts to literally hundreds, maybe thousands, of students, teachers, parents and volunteer tutors, I am always amazed at how much can be accomplished when somebody cares. While this book begins with raising a reader from birth, the same principles apply when assisting any new or reluctant reader at any age.
