This groundbreaking book by Kingsley Pungong highlights the sheer iniquity facing so much of African football; particularly, its domestic leagues which showcase so much talent; but when it comes to global television coverage and revenue, hardly get a look-in. This means that most clubs cannot grow, cannot expand their horizons, cannot build the infrastructure, facilities and wealth which would help persuade top African players to remain in their home continent, instead of always ending up so far away.
In Reversing the Muscle Drain, Kingsley makes a series of highly innovative recommendations on how this can be remedied. He dreams that one day, African football will finally be on a level financial playing field with the rest of the world at which point, the brilliance of its players will surely sweep all before it. The hope must be that this book takes that dream a major step closer to being fulfilled. I encourage all football lovers to read it; and African footballing administrators, businesspeople, executives and entrepreneurs, whether at the club or national level, to take particular heed of what Kingsley has to say.
