Everything seemed set in stone for Riorin Higgsbury, a half-elf boy who loves books and hates conflict, residing in a quiet village filled with humans. Take over the family business, practice archery with his best friend, and enjoy this peaceful existence. This was what Riorin was sure his life would be.

But this all went up in wicked flames one fateful night.

Just hours after his best friend confesses her true feelings for him he finds his home enveloped in an inferno of fire, his mother on her dying breath, and everyone he's ever known splattered across the town. But worst still, his now lover is taken away right in front of him and all he has left is a mysterious, glowing ring and his trusty bow.

Riorin must now embark on a journey through marble cities, the criminal underworld, and surreal nightmares against hellspawn of spite, monsters from dreams, mercenaries with nothing but death on their mind, mysterious hallucinations, with deceit at every turn in an epic quest he never wanted because of a destiny he dreads fulfilling.

Can Riorin triumph over demons both in and around him in order to rescue his beloved? Or will he succumb to the unrelenting scourge of an uncaring realm?
