ROMANI TRILOGY: BOOK TWO
Nine months after the relationship between the English residents of St. Peter's Mill and the town's native Romani population came to a violent end, the town rebuilds with a new leader and the Romani have built a village on the other side of the river. From across the sea, England has called for representatives to be sent, to explain the events of the past summer and to negotiate the Mill being annexed back into the United Kingdoms. If negotiations fail, all of the settlements on what was once America may find themselves at war.
The Romani send some of their own people -who can be trusted, and can pass for white- to pose as the representatives from the Mill. They include the reluctant Robert Ohlam and his cunning friend, Jonas Stratus. In a stroke of luck, the single young man sent to speak for St. Peter's Mill is John Wharton, who agrees to cooperate with the Romani as he has done before. But as the diplomats begin negotiations with the king, there are forces they are unaware of moving all around them.
A Romani woman thought to be dead in the Capitol bombing of last summer -healed but permanently disabled- has taken it upon herself to kill the king. England's Queen aids the assassin. French ship captain Liz Roget transports the representatives across the Atlantic, then sails inland to collect her sister from a girl's boarding school run by the formidable Madame Beauchene. Madame trains girls in all fields, including combat, and defiantly calls her province of the United Kingdoms the 'French Republic'. One former student is a prostitute named Celia, who works for the mysterious Mistress Swann. Swann runs the most successful brothels all over England, operated by cunning and multi-talented ladies-of-the-night. She has plans for gruesome revenge on the former St. Peter's Mill council member who harmed her a decade ago, by any means necessary, even if it must be as he testifies on the floor of Parliament.
Everything hinges on the negotiations, because an England weakened and at war will launch forces all over the Kingdoms.
