Socioeconomic and biophysical impacts range from the desirable to the adverse, and quite often a single project can yield desirables and adverse impacts at the same time. Accordingly, assessors must strive to know the sources and possible consequences of the impacts. It should be noted that perceptions and attitudinal upsets are sometimes more dislocating than physically uprooting persons from their natural habitats. It does not matter whether people's imaginations and perceptions are factual or not, even careless criticisms should be tracked and the bearers sensitized to reduce the level of hostility to the program. Emphasis has to be on ensuring inclusiveness in the design and operationalization of the methods and tools adopted so that all sectors of society have the chance to be heard and are given equal value. Examples of SIAs conducted in Nigeria's Niger Delta Region (NDR), the U.S. and the EU are reported to explain good practices, and compliance issues.
