Social impact is the effect that policies and projects have on people/communities. Social impact management is an effort to create public value in innovative ways and at the same time address local and global needs. Measuring social impact changes helps to establish the effectiveness and efficiency of programs, to sustain funders' interest, and reinforce the overall commitment to being environmentally and socially responsible. Despite its importance, impact change analysis is still treated as an afterthought in the policy-making process of many countries and is yet to be fully integrated into policy-making processes. Selected examples extracted from a recent European Union Peer Review and the Mumbai metro project are used here to demonstrate why impact change assessment is important and how it can be conducted.
