Sam tries to prevent her thoughts from coalescing into a monstrous black cloud above her head by focusing her attention on the ceiling, which is gradually becoming brighter, and by practicing her breathing, as the physician had instructed her to do. Sam is currently awake at five in the morning.

Breathe in for six, hold for three, and then breathe out for seven.

She repeatedly says to herself in her head, "I am healthy." My family does not have any major health problems. The dog has finally put an end to that embarrassing habit of urinating in the hallway. Both the food in the refrigerator and a job are still in my possession at this point. She has a twinge of second thoughts about putting in that still because the very notion of her job causes her stomach to tighten up again.

Breathe in for six, hold for three, and then breathe out for seven.

Her mother and father are both still with them now. Despite the fact that it may be challenging to find the motivation to include something like that in a gratitude journal, it is important to try. Oh, Jesus. On Sunday, her mother is going to make a pointed comment about how often they visit Phil's mother, isn't she? She's going to say something along the lines of "they always visit her." It is as certain as death, taxes, and these random chin hairs that it will occur at some point in between the little sherry and the very heavy dessert. She tries to picture herself deflecting her questions with a courteous smile and explaining to her mother that her friend Nancy has recently experienced the loss of her spouse of fifty years. Right now, she is feeling a little bit isolated from everyone else.

Yet you went to see her every chance you got when he was still alive, didn't you? She becomes aware of her mother's response to her question.

But her spouse was already in the latter stages of his illness. Before Phil's father departed this mortal coil, Phil desired to spend as much time with his father as was humanly feasible. We weren't getting our knees blown off or anything like that.

She pulls it back, trying to put the thought into a mental box, like she read in an article, and placing an imaginary mental lid on it. She then realizes that she is having another imaginary argument with her mother. The cover won't stay put and won't close properly. She finds that she gets into a lot of imaginary arguments these days, with people like Simon at work, her mother, and the woman who pushed in front of her at the checkout counter yesterday. In actual conversations, she never makes any of these points or uses any of these arguments. She doesn't say anything more; she just clenches her teeth... as he makes an effort to breathe.

Breathe in for six, hold for three, and then breathe out for seven.

She is under the impression that she is not actually residing in a conflict zone. The sinks and faucets provide potable water, and there is food available for purchase on the shelves. No explosions, no firearms No famine. There must be some explanation behind that. But, just thinking about how unfortunate the children are who are living in conflict zones makes her eyes well up with tears. She never seems to be able to keep the tears from forming in her eyes. Cat is always reminding her that she needs to go get HRT, but she is still having periods and occasional hormonal breakouts (how is that fair?) and there is no time to schedule an appointment with the doctor. The most recent time she called, they didn't have a single one available for the following two weeks. She had puzzled over the possibility that she was nearing the end of her life. They made up a fight in their heads to have with the receptionist at the doctor's office.

In actuality, she expressed herself as follows: "Well, you're talking about a very significant gap there. I'm confident I'll be OK. "In any case, thank you."

The focus of her attention shifts to her right. Phil
