Unbeknownst to her since her childhood, Purity Soule is a medium, a speaker with the dead. She has been tormented by the last memories of the murdered when they come to her at night, touching her dreams with images of their own horrific deaths at the hands of humanity's darkest creatures.

When the lingering spirit of Bethany Smith, a girl drowned in a creek by her school-mates, comes searching for her, Purity takes the girl in, willingly allowing Bethany's spirit to possess her so that she can discover what force binds Bethany to the Void, the netherworld between life and death.

After finding Bethany walking the empty darkness of the Void, they are attacked from the shadows by a violent unseen entity. Purity instinctively retreats from the world not her own, pulling the girl out with her - not realizing the true depth of the depravity behind the Bethany's death, or face of evil that lurks in the shadows.
