Lacey Metcalfe left Boston with lots of bad memories and decides wherever her finger lands on the map is where she's headed to start a new life. Just so happens that's Timber Creek, Montana and the sheriff's looking for a new deputy.

Shane Malone doesn't think Lacey's right for the job but he has strange feeling that she might be right for him. If only he hadn't sworn off getting involved again, especially with another woman who might be here today but gone tomorrow. And if only she wasn't so darn irritating.

Irritating sort of grows on him and soon the lawman and the newcomer find themselves in one another's company a little more each day.
