Andrew Lang (1844 1912) was a Scots poet, novelist, literary critic, and contributor to the field of anthropology. He is best known as a collector of folk and fairy tales. The Andrew Lang lectures at the University of St Andrews are named after him. Lang was also a prolific author of works both fiction and non. Spindle, Shuttle and Needle is a fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm and included it in The Andrew Lang's Yellow Fairy Book. The narrative follows a young girl. She became an orphan when she was a child, so she was brought up by her godmother, who died as well. She was left alone with a house, spindle, shuttle and needle to make her living. That was just enough for the time being. But what is a fairy tale without some life changing twist, and a prince charming involved in it?
