Standing Over Home is written to help broken sonsyoung men who lacked the love and direction of a father figurediscover respect and learn missed lessons about love and protection that were never passed down to them during their formative years. Through the eyes of author Dennis Powell, division champion Dodger pitcher, Standing Over Home communicates metaphorically this picture of the importance of a father's role to stand as protector and priest over his home and family. Just as a batter "stands over home" with the battling responsibility to hit or to move the runner forward, so does a father "stand over his home" to provide for, guide, and protect his family, moving them ever forward. The book draws from the real account of a son who faced some heart-breaking tragedies in life. Since his father, who lived in the house, was not in his position as head of the household, the father's absence only lined the son's path to adulthood with setbacks. Eventually, the son found himself unprepared to lead his own family. However, the goodness of God had people positioned along the way of both the Black and White races to help him discover some of the principles he never received from his father. The book will help readers acquire knowledge and prepare them to lead their families. Standing Over Home introduces readers to six distinctive characters they will meet as they journey from childhood to adulthood. As a result, men will value their position as a dad and be able to execute their God-given duties more effectively in the home.

About the Author

Dennis Powell traveled for years as a professional baseball player; it is a career that pulled him away from his family and responsibilities. However, it was an unrelenting query from home which forced him to reexamine his priorities. Life, sports, church, and now retirement have dealt Dennis the experiential knowledge and the biblical truths he needs to speak about fatherhood and forgiveness.
