Most people would agree that the fact that there are many desperately poor people in a world in which the means to eradicate poverty are clearly available is truly lamentable. But many of us in rich countries might also think that this situation does not have much to do with us, and that in any case the problem will take care of itself in a few years, as poor countries become wealthier.
Summary: World Poverty and Human Rights is principally a summary and analysis of the main ideas set out in World Poverty and Human Rights by Thomas Pogge. It looks at some of the root causes of global poverty, and in doing so challenges the complacency shown by citizens of rich countries. In particular, Pogge proposes that we are at least in part actively responsible for global poverty.
