As she set down the dishes of greens around the table Miss once more eavesdropped on the conversation. They were talking about her. She liked to hear herself talked about. Sometimes being the object of interest was intensely satisfying.

"And you've never had a bit of trouble with her at all?" Lydia marveled.

"None," crowed Chip. "The first summer was the toughest as we were all getting to know one another. The biggest adjustment was for Sara-Jane." He paused and looked at his wife. "But since it was her present to meshe managed. And Miss is very discrete. She's available all summer and the best part is she loves to serve. I think this is a vacation for her, am I right, Miss Schlau?" he asked his slave.

Claude grinned at this answer. Hollis shook his head thoughtfully. "No trouble with her at all?" he asked. "I mean, sometimes you hear that a person wants to play the role of a slave and then there's this long training period and then the whole thing falls apart for gods know why."
