He encountered Doug Scott, Normal Wisdom, Michael Caine, Noel Gordon, Brenda Blethyn, Josie Lawrence, Roy Holder, Timothy Spall and Quentin Crisp, as well as a motley crew of eccentrics and introverts, with utterly astonishing skills, who taught him everything he knows.
