Egbaland is one of the prestigious towns that broke out of the Old Oyo Empire in the Yoruba Kingdom, South-western Nigeria. After fleeing from Oyo, they settled in the surroundings of the famous Olumo Rock. The rock provided shelter and safety for the people of Egba during wars and attacks. This brought about the name "Abeokuta" which means beneath the rock.
The Egbas, though are Yorubas but their culture, way of life, mode of worship, political structure and many more are peculiar. In no time after they departed from Oyo, they grew into a great and wholesome kingdom and they made tremendous progress in no time.
Egba cannot be left out when talking about the great Yoruba kingdom because they have a great impact on history.
