Taking a BIG ONE for the Team

Some things are worth the initial pain and discomfort.

You have never been a team player. You had never cared about being a good employee. You have never cared about the good of any of the corporations that employed you. You were just there for the paycheck. Some things are NOT worth the pain and discomfort.

The job market stopped cooperating. Employers expressed reservations about your frequent job-hopping. No recruiters trusted that you'd stay long enough to be useful to "the company." The market's distrust of your loyalty and dedication led you to a cash-strapped tech start-up. Your entire professional life changed when you worked with a small, enthused team that never knew whether or not they'd make payroll. You turned into a go-getter.

Five years later, the plucky little tech start-up was bought out by an over-sized legacy corporation. You were back to not caring about being a good employee, nor the faceless corporation, until you found out that the corporation only purchased the tech company to kill it off, and with it, all the employees acquired from the merger, including you. Add in a potential harassment charge designed to smear the reputation of one of your old teammates, you had no choice but to roll up your sleeves and get involved again. You were not going down without a fight. And the fight led you to taking one for the team (one of the BIGGEST ONES you had ever seen) to save the integrity of the original tech start-up.
