This section serves up the very best of Kipling's short stories. Kipling's fame as a short fiction writer is based predominantly on three types of stories: his exotic tales of India, his narratives about the military, and his children's books. His portrayal of India and its culture occupies many dimensions. He wrote stories about virtually every sector of society. These tales are considered remarkable for their innovative plots and deceptively simple structures.
Rudyard Kipling was an English author and poet, born in India, and is best known today for his children's books, including The Jungle Book (1894), The Second Jungle Book (1890), Just So Stories (1902), Gungs Din (1890), Plain Tales from the Hills (1888), etc.
Many critics consider Mowgli, the central figure in Jungle Books, one of the most memorable characters in children literature. In 1907 Kipling received the Noble Prize of literature for both his short fictions and novels, the first English author to be so honoured.
