Males of the species who, perhaps even without being aware of it, have been seeking the life of service to a woman they find.

A visiting Obeah priestess fascinates and manipulates a cynical English professor in Rafael Menton's "A Woman of Haiti"; and yet another smug and dismissive English professional meets a similar fate in Mr Menton's "A Chinese Horror Revisited"; while, in "Blood Slave", a married writer looking to cash in on the nineteenth-century craze for all things vampiric and Transylvanian accepts a commission to deliver a book on the history of an obscure and little known Carpathian family And comes face to face with that family's controlling and irresistible matriarch.

Our penultimate adventure is Connor Kruse's contemporary tale of interracial femdom and human bondage, "The White Serf"; and we finish with "Adhira Khatri", another tale from Rafael Menton involving an Indian widow with dominant designs on her handsome one-time neighbour, recently released from prison after all but killing his former wife's lover.
