I am proud to call myself an educator. I am writing this in hopes to bring a chuckle to all of the educators out there who can connect and relate to my stories.
I also write this as a passion project. A few years ago I participated in a project called "Genius Hour." The students had 1 hour a week, for 8 weeks, to come up with a project to work on. They would call this activity a "passion project" as they were to choose something that they were really interested in or passionate about, which directly leades me to this book.
The reason for this book is simple. I was inspired by my students and had my own "Ah hah!" moment. About half way through our passion projects, one sweet and studious boy in my class asked me one day what my passion project would be. He didn't ask if I was doing one, he had just assumed that I would want to do one too! I laughed it off.I had 2 young kids and a full time job. I did not have time for a passion project.or did I?
So I hope this is an easy, enjoyable read. The whole book is based on true stories and events. Names have been changed for confidentiality reasons, including my own. I likely will never write another book. I promised myself I would write this memoir. I encouraged my students to follow through with their dreams and goals so I must do so myself.
Only educators know the triumphs, trials, and tribulations of being a teacher. And I am hoping my story, so far, can help people to understand and reflect on the magnitude and greatness of our "job". So here is my passion project! Enjoy.
