The open camaraderie they shared was somewhat unnerving, but she was forcing herself to look at their situation from a totally logical point of view: Kelly had been partners with Brie for more than a year, and they would naturally have developed a close relationship during that time since they probably spent more time together on a daily basis than some spouses. Each needed to know that the other had their back in any given situation, and for that each one needed to have implicit trust in the other.
Yet, in spite of her rationalizing, there was a small part of her which couldn't help feeling a twinge of jealousy each time their eyes met, each time they shared a smile or a laugh.
Brianna had been Kelly's partner, and would be working with him once again when he returned to active duty. Brianna had a bond with him which she would never be a part of, and got to see a side of him which she never would. Brianna was, and would be, as much a part of Kelly's life as she was as long as they were partners.
And although Kelly had assured her that their relationship had always been, and would always be, strictly platonic, she still found herself glancing across the table and wondering whether the same could be said for his partner.
Kelly was a beautiful man, inside and out. He was caring and considerate, and he had a goofy sense of humor which lent a boyish charm to his blatant sexual appeal: all qualities which any woman would find appealing. So there was a part of her which found it difficult to believe that Brie had been able to remain completely immune to his obvious charms for more than a year.
And while the reasonable and rational part of her recognized that her fears and insecurities were unfounded, and that she would not even be having them had Kelly's partner been a man, the jealous girlfriend inside of her could not help sitting up and taking notice as they exchanged another quick look.
