This is a screenplay based on the life of Michael Morris Healy, an Irish immigrant to America in the early 1800, who established a large cotton plantation and defied slavery laws to marry a beautiful African slave girl with whom he had nine children. These, by law, were considered black and forbidden to be educated, even to learn to read and write. Healy again defied the law and smuggled them north for education where they overcame great odds to establish themselves as awesome achievers. The eldest became America's first black bishop. The second son became president of Georgetown University. The third son became a legendary sea captdain in the Revenue Cutter Service, the forerunner to the U.S. Coast Guard, which, in more recent years named a ship after him, The Captain Mike. One of Healy's daughters became a mother superior. A younger son, a priest, served at the Vatican and took charge of Boston Cathedral - and the yougest, for contrast, was a rebel and became a professional gambler.
