Lucas Cleeve was the pseudonym of Adeline Georgiana Isabel Kingscote (18681908) was a novelist born in England, the author of over sixty works including The Woman Who Wouldn't in 1895. After her marriage to Colonel Howard Kingscote, most of her novels were published under the name Mrs Howard Kingscote. Recorded in Who's Who as a traveller and linguist, she compiled a book of Indian folklore, Tales of the Sun, or, Folklore of Southern India, and a work entitled The English Baby in India and How to Rear it. However she was best known as a novelist.
This is an old Hindu legend collected and retold by Howard Kingscote. The story tells us about a poor man living with his wife who are once invited to the house of some local brahman (hindu priest). There they first taste muffins and enjoy them so much that want to cook them in their own house. But for that they must save every grain of rice. Eventually, they have the required amount of rice collected
