Carl Louis Kingsbury was the pen name used by Caroline (Carrie) Louise Marshall. She was born in Wisconsin in 1849, and married an Iowa physician in 1879. She contributed serials and short stories to magazines, and published textbooks and girls' novels, some using her pen name. Marshall eventually settled in Lamar, Colorado.
