The Brittle Foundations of Our Civilization

Three thousand years ago.

The fundamental concepts of our social life go back as far as 2,800 years. In that time, humanity has made astounding discoveries, created an extraordinary comfortable and modern world and invented the unthinkable. Yes, we have tamed the natural forces, we have shaped the surface of the planet. We have evolvedno, sorry, we have not. It is true that we live longer and healthier, but our social life has not changed at all. Our social foundations, debated in the world at its beginning are still being put to the test. We have failed. Our understanding of the ideal society is as good as three thousand years ago. We are no better, hence our civilization is bound to crumble as former empires did, our foundations are fragile, what we believe in is contradictory. We are lost.

Where did we go wrong in that search for our identity? Actually at the very start, at that departure block when we stole or borrowed the image we pursue today. As you would do on a flea market, we tried on a robe, a hat, a foulard, a pair of shoes and why not- smart-looking spectacles...maybe the mirror type. We liked it all and took it home to be worn from there on. Proudly we walk on the streets showing off our unmatching wardrobe, we promote its vogue...no, let me correct that, we impose that fashion on ourselves and the world, but the colors are striking and there is not always a relationship between the appearance and the function of our apparel, to our needs.

At first, we liked that value, then that other one. Never did we stop to consider if they could be dissimilar or unmixable to the point of contradiction.
Yes, our 3000 year old cherished truths are at a face-off amongst them, with us trapped in the middle, sometime taking the left side, some other the right one. I get it, we want the best available in the world's culture to become our own, to fuse and become our identity, but you can either have a one-of-the kind-suit or a uniform, both at the same time you cant. Everyone of our deep rooted values cant be for one and for all at the same time. Are we all leaders? Are we all rich? Are we all free? Welcome to some answers and many more questions.
