The Broken Bush

Angus McLean is propelled into a world of dreams and nightmares, when he loses his job as an estate manager in the remote Scottish highlands. With his wife of one year he accepts a position as game warden/ station manager in the Nyanga valley, in what was to become a war of nutrition in the Rhodesian bush.
For three years he lives the dream, the open spaces of the African savannah contrast with the rugged Scottish landscape as he learns the ways of the bush.
He admires and grows to love the indigenous people for their tenacity and loyalty, but the dream ends and the nightmare begins, when his wife and that of his friend and mentor Lindani are killed by terrorist insurgents.
They vow vengeance on the groups responsible, tracking and killing them in the thick African bush. They make contact with various Rhodesian military groups and is surprised by the amount of foreign troops in the conflict. While he stays strong others in his position crack under the strain
A new vet is posted to his station Annika a beautiful widowed Dutch woman; she enjoys watching his reactions to her sexual innuendoes. They fall in love when she falls pregnant and marry; he is back living the dream with his new wife when a decision is made to close his station.
The nightmares return when she has trouble with her pregnancy and is hospitalized in the capital Salisbury one hundred and fifty kilometres from the station Asked to manage the rundown of the station until a replacement is found, he returns to the bush.
When the station suffers a sustained attack he loses all his men except Lindani and his second wife.
They abandon the station and head for the capital, but their vehicle is struck by a mine and they have to continue the journey on foot through the African bush.
On reaching the capital he finds his wife his given birth to twin boys, they decide Africa has already cost them both too much
