The Center of the Universe: Volume 16, Chapters 68-70

When Douglas begins an affair with his stunning yet prissy younger colleague, Nguyet, neither of them suspects how turbulent their liaison will become. Over the years, not only their intimacy and audacity grow but also their susceptibility to temptation. On their journey of unbridled lust, they meet others who are equally liable to sin, so that even an orgy circle forms in their sleepy little town in Central Vietnam.

One young lady who has started to break loose from the rigid moral norms of her society, is Tina. Back in her hometown, during the summer break from university, her loins are starving for some hearty twirling. As the charmingly neurotic student loves roles-playing, Douglas films her committing a misdeed at the supermarket in order to blackmail and then punish her properly.

To keep things fair, Tina holds the reins again during their next encounter: She pretends to just have finished high school and is eager to practice her English with the only foreigner she knows. At her home, a small incident changes the whole dynamic, however, and Tina and Douglas discover the art and pleasure of taking it slow.

In the last and longest episode here, Douglas bids his proper farewell to Anna, his all-time favorite student, who is by far the most beautiful young woman he has ever met. While the two are recounting their favorite moments of all the years they have known each other, they are asking themselves if they couldn't add to the list.

As varied as the stories are, they have one theme in common: Ultimately, they are life-affirming efforts on the part of the Vietnamese women to liberate themselves from the rigid morals of their small town. All light-hearted novellas are told in a revealing, tongue-in-cheek way and, in passing, offer glimpses into Vietnamese culture. Without taboos, they explore the sources and dynamic of erotic desire and lure the reader under the spell of an exotic world.

The author of this extensive series of erotic stories has been enjoying Southeast Asia for ten years now. After living in Germany and the U.S. for most of his life, Douglas ventured in the opposite direction in 2010: first, he taught at a community college in the South Seas for three years, before settling in Vietnam. Naturally, all novellas reflect his undying love for young Southeast Asian women.
