2nd Edition - Updated and easier to use! We are continually subjected to outrageous ads like: "Lose 18 lbs in 3 weeks!" Really - what nonsense! Researchers have long known that weight change in humans depends on age, gender, height, weight, activity, caloric intake and time on a diet, but at that time no weight loss predictive equation existed. Although a quick literature search revealed that most scientists agreed that weight loss was governed by the conservation of energy, also known as the first law of thermodynamics.

Then fitness enthusiast Dr. Vincent Antonetti, an engineer and an expert in thermodynamics and computer science, reasoned that as an individual loses weight, the energy needed to maintain the individual's lower weight must also decrease. And therefore over time weight loss must slow and taper off. He further reasoned that by applying the first law of thermodynamics to humans it should be possible to do a mathematical analysis of weight change in human beings and develop an equation that accurately predicted weight change in humans.

The first part of his book traces, in easy to understand language, his fascinating journey toward that goal. He worked full time managing an engineering group at IBM. So he worked early mornings and late evenings on the development of a weight change predictive equation. After two years of study and research he devised and verified the first and only weight change predictive equation, and published his results in a paper, "The Equations Governing Weight Change in Human Beings," which appeared in the prestigious American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Dr. Antonetti recognized that his findings, useful to researchers would also be helpful to millions of weight conscious and overweight individuals -- but not in equation form. So he went a step further. Using a computer, he programmed his predictive equation. The output is a series of easy-to-use tables which anyone can use to devise a personalized weight loss or weight maintenance program. But portions of the original Computer Diet (published in 1973) were out-of-date. At the urging of editors at NoPaperPress he wrote a new, updated version, The Computer Diet - U.S. Edition.

The original Computer Diet was critically acclaimed by Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, Consumer Union magazine, The Atlanta Journal & Constitution, etc.. But we believe the updated version is even better. The Computer Diet - U.S. Edition is serious business. It's a sensible, scientific and well-balanced plan that your physician will approve of. It will be as valid years from now as it is today, because The Computer Diet - U.S. Edition is a classic - and timeless.
