The Dark, Dirty Underbelly

When a local dogwalker discovers evidence of a naked body buried beneath the sands of a quiet Kentish beach at the low tidemark line it doesn't cause much of consternation. Bodies are always turning up on that stretch of the beach and one more isn't going to matter much.

But then another body turns up. And another. And pretty soon it becomes apparent that a serious crime has been committed. Kent Police are understandably concerned, but when they discover that most of the victims hail from London, they seem only too keen to pass the buck.

And the buck lands in DI McElhenry's lap.

Meanwhile, McElhenry is attempting to solve the mystery of the death of a distraught mother's hopelessly inadequate son. An innocent youth, who should've had his life ahead of him, uncharacteristically left his house one evening. His body was later found and there were drugs in his system. The death seems easily explained

Except the evidence against this is slowly mounting.

There's only one mind capable of cracking these cases. DI Carrie McElhenry's. Although she has her patience and personal resources stretched by her colleagues and her own ambitions. McElhenry knows these are cases she cannot afford to lose sight of. The pile of bodies is building up much too rapidly and the Press is going frantic. Ad if McElhenry makes enemies along the way, then so be it. This ruthless killer must be stopped at all costs. She owes it to the victims, to their families and to herself.
