The Gap is where the Delaware River cuts through a large ridge of the Appalachian Mountains. Now in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, which is used primarily for recreational purposes, such as rafting, canoeing, swimming, fishing, hiking, and rock climbing. In the 19th century it was a prime tourist attraction. 19th century travel guide penned by a manager of the Kittatinny House resort hotel, during its heyday. It was under L. W. Brodhead's care that the resort expanded to accommodate 250 guests from the original 25.
