Power is embodied in a Crown or in a Stool. One of the earliest Akan Empires was formed by Denkyira whose skills in statesmanship and governance was surpassed by none and to be copied by latter Empires such as the Asanti Empire. The Denkyira Empire controlled the whole of the Akan states led by their all powerful Agona Royal Family.
The Denkyira state began as the Agona State ruled by the Royal Agona Family. The Chief Priest of the ruling Agona Family was Okomfo Anokye who became famous in the Asante Empire. The Parrot is the totem or symbol of the Agona Clan. The Denkyira King Ntim Gakari was the son of King Osei Tutu of the Asante Empire. The Denkyiria king Nana Kojo Tibo was the king who led the team which signed the Bond of 1844.
The Royal Family should embrace all political parties and their governments. Stay neutral but be supportive of all governments in order to avoid conflict which may harm the state and its people. Sadly, some stools are being used as personal assets by occupants. Royalty can be a blessing for the people, with the right direction and right leadership focus. It still has a role since man is territorial, tribal and needs to be led. Since there is no vacuum, if royality is destroyed, its place will be filled with fathom royalty and that will be a disaster for the people's wellbeing. A case in point is the royal celebrity status that politicians accord themselves. The nation state and indeed the union of states [EU, AU etc] appears to be failing tribal communities. They are too distant and far removed from the base of communities. These unions only work for big multinational companies and the individuals operating them. The mystique surrounding royals has been eroding as they marry non royals and lead mainstream lives. It is a positive development as it provides them with a better understanding of life outside their bubbles.
