Edith Wharton (Jan 24, 1862 Aug 11, 1937) was an American novelist and short story writer, her most known works are The House of Mirth and The Age of Innocence.. She was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature on multiple occasions. Wharton first attempted to write at the age of six. Major themes of her works came from her family relationship.
"The Descent of Man and other stories" is collection of short stories by Edith Wharton. All of those works are devoted to denouncing of Ney-York's high society on the verge of XX century. Dissecting of customs, criticizing of habits, defaming of matrimonial traditions all that Wharton does successfully with words and deeds of her characters. And does it gracefully, with mostly gentle irony and sincere curiosity about why people do what they do.
