The Dog Called Hitler

Dear reader, here is a very unusual book. It is: a collection of great stories which are mostly about Communism. The stories are full of humorous, satirical, grotesque, and dramatic events which took place in Communist Poland.

Nowhere else in Polish literature can be found such interesting written stories. Many of these stories are very instructive; as they are strong warnings about the dangers of Communism.

The reader from the West may often ask himself/herself the question: "were these situations even possible? Is this book a total fiction or a sort of science-fiction?" In reality some of them are fiction, but others are based on true events or are a mixture of fiction and facts.

The stories are written in a simple language, but the actions are amazing in both the political and non-political stories. They reflect the atmosphere in small Polish towns and villages. They show the problems faced by average people, mostly helpless, who were sometimes using clever and other ways to survive the difficult times under Communism.

The author also shows the problems faced by the administrative and police authorities at higher and lower levels and how they tried to resolve them.

This is a valuable book to read and one which you will find very difficult to put down once you have started to read it.
