Raffe was already awake and partially dressed when she woke up the next morning. It wasn't the first time she had spent in a client's bed, but this was a different than usual circumstance.

"Owe?" she asked. Because of her job she had a routine that didn't involve early rising and she wasn't fully awake.

"I've got the usual number of ducats, but I don't know if I owe you extra foreverything." He gave her a gentle smile that neither of them believed. "Never let it be said that Lord Rafferty vanRivenscuv didn't deal honestly with those he transacts with."

"You don't owe me anything."

"You won't make a living giving it away for free," he told her.

Vanda laughed at him. "Don't worry about me. I'll always survive. The three lands will go to war with each other and wipe out their armies and I'll have a little tent already set up to service the survivors."

His smile melted away. "Don't say things like that." In his hand was a small pouch that clinked pleasantly as he shook it. "Your usual fee."
