The Heart Shall Choose

Julia needs extra qualifications for teaching. She supported her ex-boyfriend when he worked toward his MA and he was then supposed to support her. Julia finds him in bed with someone else. She goes to live with her grandmother to earn money, mostly working in hotels. She gets a better-paid job with Likely Prospects, a company organising exclusive holiday tours. A lecturer accompanies each tour. Julia's tours go well and Claudia is her main contact at headquarters. Julia realizes Claudia doesn't like her and Julia finds it's because she is after Roark Ellis, who is the lecturer on Julia's next tour. Roark is divorced and not looking for a replacement. Julia's uncomplicated honesty impresses Roark and she likes him. Claudia is troubled.
Julia and Roark meet up on another tour and their friendship grows. One day Roark kisses her. He's mad at himself, and Julia is mad about his reaction. She swims through a haze of new feelings. She and Roark part and go their separate ways until, one day, Julia meets Roark with two women who he introduces as his 'sister and Fiona'. Julia meets Claudia, who tells Julia that Roark's ex-wife has returned and is hoping for reconciliation. Was the woman with Roark his ex-wife?
Julia has enough saved for her post-graduate course and intends to leave. On her final tour, she has to return to London when her grandmother is taken to hospital. Roark is waiting at the airport to take her to the hospital and, after Julia sees her grandmother, he takes her to his flat. The next morning, on the way to the hospital, they quarrel. Julia is on her final tour. She realizes she loves Roark but it seems that happiness will evade her again. Or will it ....?
