Andrew Lang (1844 1912) was a Scots poet, novelist, literary critic, and contributor to the field of anthropology. He is best known as a collector of folk and fairy tales. The Andrew Lang lectures at the University of St Andrews are named after him. Lang was also a prolific author of works both fiction and non-; he wrote his own fairy tales such as Prince Prigio and Prince Ricardo of Pantouflia , and wrote numerous historical texts.

'The Hoodie-Crow' is a fairy-tale that was published as a part of 'The Lilac Fairy Book' in 1910. It tells us a story if a hoodie crow that one day decides to get married and proposes to the three daughters of a farmer. Two of them are repelled by him and regect him but the third one finds him nice and agrees. Then she gets to know that the hoodie-crow can turn into a handsome man but she has to choose: will it be the night-time or the day-time...
