Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley was a British novelist, short story writer, dramatist, essayist, biographer, travel writer, best known for her Gothic horror story "Frankenstein: or, The Modern Prometheus".
"The Last Man" is an apocalyptic science fiction novel, first published in 1826. The action happens in twenty-first century and revolves around six characters, who survived after merciless plague. The novel depicts the relations of protagonists, set against the backdrop of a catastrophe which is inexorably exterminating humanity. It is notable, that the characters were partially copied from figures in Shelley's life, particularly Shelley's late husband Percy Bysshe Shelley and Lord Byron.
