Bhagat Singh one of the most prominent revolutionaries of India enhanced the dormant national feelings of his countrymen. He went to the gallows with a smile, when he was charged and convicted for assassinating John Saunders. Hanged on March 23, 1931, he is regarded as Shaheed which means "martyr".
