The Life and Times of Frederick Douglass (Illustrated Edition)

The autobiography captures the transformation of Douglass from slave to a free abolitionist and social reformer. His final autobiography is The Life and Times of Frederick Douglass, which went into further depth about how he escaped, due to the emancipation of slaves after the Civil War. Douglass could give more details about his life as a slave and his escape from slavery, since there were no longer concerns about retribution or punishment. This one also came after the Civil War and Garfields assassination, allowing Douglass to discuss his work during the Civil War and his encounters with presidents like Lincoln and Garfield.
