The Liver

Ignac Kunos (18601945) was a Hungarian folklorist, linguist, turkologist. He was one of the most avowed scientists of Turkish dialectology and folk literature. He started his career focusing on the dialectology, phonological and morphological of the Hungarian language, and at university he started interesting in Turkish philology and language. After his trip at the Orient he collected Turkish fairy tales and published it in Forty-four Turkish Fairy Tales.

This fairy-tale was collected and retold by Ignac Kunos. It tells us about an old woman who liked eating liver. One day she gave her daughter some money to buy it. The daughter bought the liver and took it to the pond to wash. There a stork stole it but the girl tried to persue him to give it back. The stork said he would do it if the girl gave him barley...
