When artist HC Lee arrives in Korea for his army tour of duty, he is assigned the job of painting a general's name on baseball bats. To keep a reasonable perspective on life, occupy his time and maintain is artistic skills, Lee paints war stories as told by combat veterans. Despite the idiosyncrasies of the army, Lee finds his artistic style. However, the road to success is lined with higher ranks who believe that Lee's talent is theirs to command for their personal benefit. Lee's creativity must extend beyond the canvas to navigate around the black market master sergeant and even the top brass of the Department of Army.
