James Fenimore Cooper was a popular American writer in 19th century. He was best known for his historical romances. Before his writer career, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Midshipman, which greatly influenced many of his novels and other writings.
"The Pilot: A Tale of the Sea" is a famous historical novel by James Cooper which became the fourth novel and his first sea tale. The main figure of the book is John Paul Jones, who considers his life boring and senseless brooding upon a dark past and a darker fate. So he occasionally decides to rise himself to unreal activities in his raid along the English coast. Wonderful story of a traveller who understood that life is something more than anyone can guess.
